Goulceby Village
With a population of about 140, Goulceby is located in the peaceful heart of the Lincolnshire Wolds, midway between Horncastle and Louth. Village children attend Scamblesby primary school and continue their education at one of the Secondary, Grammar or Public schools in the local area. The population demographic is slowly becoming younger as more families with children move into the village. The village has a pub with an attached shop and associated thriving ‘glamping’ campsite. In the last two years six large residential properties have been built in the village and planning permission has recently been granted for a further three bungalows. Public transport is provided by the Lincolnshire County Council Inter-Connect service.
All Saints Church, Goulceby
The church, dedicated to All Saints, is to be found at the top edge of the village. The building, consecrated in 1908/9 is small and simple with limited facilities. Always open and easily accessible, the church receives a steady stream of visitors walking the neighbouring Viking Way. Somewhat unusually there are two churchyards. The new churchyard (surrounding the church building) is well maintained. The old churchyard, situated to the north of the church on the site of the original church that was demolished in the 1890’s, is only open for booked burials. A churchyard plan is located at the church entrance.
Occasional services are held during the year with the candlelit Christmas carol service being especially well attended.
