The Parish of the Asterby Group is beautifully situated in the Horncastle Deanery, in the Lincolnshire Wolds, a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. It lies to the south west of the attractive market town of Louth, east of the historic county town of Lincoln and to the north of Horncastle itself and is set in rolling, peaceful countryside.
The Parish consists of 11 villages and hamlets –
Benniworth
Biscathorpe (closed)
Burgh on Bain with Girsby
Donington on Bain
Gayton le Wold with Grimblethorpe
Goulceby
Ranby
Scamblesby with Cawkwell
Stenigot
Worship in the village churches is shared on a rota basis with some parishioners travelling from their own villages to worship together, while others attend formal worship only when it is held in their particular village church. Numbers fluctuate with greater numbers attending at Harvest, Christmas and special services.
The Asterby Group is part of the South Wolds Partnership, which operates as a ‘Mission Partnership’, to encourage each other in matters of ministry and outreach. We share the work of parish administration. Our Parish Administrator, Debbie Knight, works equally for all of the churches. We also have regular joint meetings regarding Safeguarding, where the three Safeguarding Officers, together with the clergy, keep each other updated on good practice.
