Benniworth Village
Benniworth is a small, quiet village on the western edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds, with a population of around 180, including inhabitants of all ages. Villagers utilise Lincoln, Market Rasen and Louth for work and education. There are outlying farms which contribute to the life of the village as do two small camp/caravan sites, holiday cottages and a B&B business.
Many parishioners are keen gardeners and find a great deal of pleasure in the countryside and natural world surrounding the church. Villagers contribute towards the church and have a willingness to help with new ideas, such as the recent removal of pews.
St. Julian’s Church, Benniworth
St Julian’s is a warm coloured stone church set in the heart of Benniworth village. There is a Saxon cross in the churchyard, and a Norman doorway, but the church was mostly rebuilt in the 1870s by James Fowler of Louth. It contains a beautifully soft toned Richardson organ and also features an Elizabethan carved chair from Ranby church. The church is kept open all the time to allow private contemplation and peace. There are colouring books for children and benches in the churchyard by a garden of rest. The graveyard is well kept and the church sees a steady stream of visitors throughout the year.
